The Parable of the Sower
Matthew 13:1-23; Luke 8:4-15; Mark 4:26-29 New Testament PrinciplePerseverance

Jesus told about a farmer who scattered seed on four kinds of ground. Only the good soil grew a big crop. God's Word is the seed, and when we hear it, hold on to it and keep going, God makes it grow in us.
God's Word has life inside it, and God makes it grow. Because He is faithful, we can hold on to His Word and keep going, even when it's hard.

Memory verse

Luke 8:15 BSB
Christ Connection · The gospel
The seed is the word of God (Luke 8:11), and Jesus is the Word who became a man (John 1:14). Jesus also said He was like a seed that falls into the ground and dies so it can grow into many more (John 12:24). He was buried and rose again, and now His life grows in everyone who receives Him (1 Peter 1:23).
Luke 8:11; John 1:14; John 12:24; 1 Peter 1:23
The Big Story · Redemption
Since the Fall, hearts have been hard ground, full of rocks and thorns. Jesus came as the Sower and the Seed, and His Word grows new life in everyone who receives it, until the whole earth is His harvest.

Take kids outside for a quick seed hunt with paper bags. Look for acorns, pinecones, dandelion fluff, maple "helicopters" and grass tops. Come back in and dump the bags on a towel. Ask, "What's hiding inside all of these?" (Baby plants!) Say, "Jesus told a story about seeds. Let's find out where they grew."
Bible story 6 min
Jesus was by the Sea of Galilee. So many people came that He got into a boat. The people stood on the shore and listened.
Jesus told a story. A farmer went out to plant. He threw handfuls of seed all over his field.
Some seed fell on the path. The ground was hard. Birds swooped down and ate it up.
