Here Am I, Send Me: Isaiah Sees the Lord
Isaiah 6:1-8 Old Testament PrincipleServing others

In the year King Uzziah died, Isaiah saw the Lord sitting on a high throne in the temple. Shining angels called seraphim cried, "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Hosts!" Isaiah cried, "Woe is me! I am a sinner!" An angel touched his lips with a hot coal from the altar, and God took his sin away. Then God asked, "Whom shall I send?" Isaiah said, "Here am I. Send me!" When God forgives us, we get to serve Him.
God is holy, and He forgives sinners who come to Him. The people He forgives become people He sends, so we serve Him gladly, not to earn His love, but because we have received it.

Christ Connection · God’s character
John tells us that "Isaiah said these things because he saw Jesus' glory and spoke about Him" (John 12:41). The holy King on the throne is the same Lord who came as Jesus. And the coal from the altar points to the cross, where Jesus' sacrifice takes away the sin of everyone who trusts Him (1 John 1:7-9).
John 12:41; Revelation 4:8; 1 John 1:7-9
The Big Story · Redemption
God is holy, and every person needs His forgiveness. He provides the sacrifice that takes our sin away, then sends forgiven people to tell the world about Him. Isaiah saw the glory of the Son who would one day come to be that sacrifice.

Bible story 6 min
King Uzziah had been king for a very long time. The year he died, a man named Isaiah went to the temple. Suddenly, Isaiah saw the Lord! God was sitting on a high, high throne. His robe filled the whole temple!
Shining angels called seraphim flew above Him. Each one had six wings. Two covered its face. Two covered its feet. Two were for flying. They called out, "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Hosts! The whole earth is full of His glory!" The doorposts shook. Smoke filled the temple.
Isaiah fell down. "Oh no!" he cried. "I am a sinner! And I have seen the King!"

In the year King Uzziah died, Isaiah saw the Lord on a high throne, with seraphim calling, "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of Hosts." Seeing God's holiness made Isaiah see his own sin, and he cried, "Woe is me!" God cleansed him with a coal from the altar. Then, when God asked, "Whom shall I send?" Isaiah answered, "Here am I. Send me!" God forgives us first, and then He sends us to serve Him.

The year Judah's long-reigning king died, Isaiah saw the true King, the LORD of Hosts, enthroned in holiness while seraphim cried, "Holy, holy, holy." Seeing God undid Isaiah, and he confessed his sin. God provided atonement through a coal from the altar, then asked, "Whom shall I send?" and the cleansed prophet volunteered, even though the message would be hard. John says Isaiah saw Jesus' glory. Forgiven people serve the holy God, not to earn grace, but because of it.
