My Eyes Have Seen Your Salvation: Simeon and Anna
Luke 2:21-38; Isaiah 49:6 New Testament PrinciplePatience

When baby Jesus was about six weeks old, Mary and Joseph brought Him to the temple in Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord. An old man named Simeon had waited his whole life to see the Savior God promised, and the Holy Spirit had told him he would see the Christ before he died. Simeon took baby Jesus in his arms and praised God – "My eyes have seen Your salvation," a light for all the nations. Then Anna, a very old woman who worshiped at the temple night and day, came and thanked God and told everyone who was waiting about the child. God keeps His promises, and waiting for Him is worth it.
Patience is waiting for God without giving up. We can wait with hope, worshiping and praying, because God always keeps His promises in His perfect time.

Luke places two elderly saints at the doorway of Jesus' life. Simeon, righteous and devout, had been told by the Holy Spirit that he would see the Lord's Christ before he died. Led by the Spirit, he took the infant Jesus in his arms and blessed God – "My eyes have seen Your salvation… a light for revelation to the Gentiles" – and warned Mary that a sword would pierce her soul. Anna, a widowed prophetess who worshiped night and day for decades, gave thanks and spoke of the child to all who were waiting for redemption. Their patience wasn't passive – it was a lifetime of prayer and worship that ended in seeing God's salvation face to face.
