Teach Them Jesus with Music

Sing the story, and make a joyful noise.

The Bible is full of music: shepherd songs, temple choirs, a harp that calmed a king and a new song in heaven. Kids already love to sing, clap and make noise. In these lessons they learn a brand-new song for each story, set to a tune they already know, play a rhythm card, build an instrument from everyday things and take home a song card to sing with their family. Every lesson is still a full Teach Them Jesus lesson, with a Teacher Guide, four age versions and printables, and every story still points to Jesus.

Children making music together with a homemade shaker, a rubber-band harp, a hand drum and their voices

How every lesson works

  1. Sing the story

Every lesson has an original song, set to a tune kids already know, with motions for little ones.

  2. Feel the rhythm

A rhythm card turns the memory verse into claps, stomps, snaps and shakes.

  3. Make an instrument

Kids build a shaker, a harp, a water-glass xylophone or a tambourine from everyday things.

  4. Sing it at home

A take-home song card gives families the words, the rhythm and the instrument to make together.

Questions

Do I need to be musical to teach these lessons?

No. Every song uses a tune almost everyone already knows, like "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" or "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," and the rhythm cards show exactly what to clap and stomp. If you can sing along at church, you can lead these lessons.

Are the songs copyrighted worship songs?

No. Every song is our own original words, written for the Bible story and set to traditional tunes that are free for anyone to use. Each lesson also suggests a few familiar worship songs by title that you can add if you like.

What supplies do I need?

Cheap, common things like paper cups and plates, dry beans, rubber bands, small boxes and drinking glasses. Each lesson's Music Guide and Teacher Guide list exactly what to gather.

Is this a separate curriculum?

No. Every music lesson is a full Teach Them Jesus lesson with a Teacher Guide, Preschool, K–2nd, 3rd–4th and 5th–6th versions, and printable activity sheets. Music is woven through the hook, the story, the activities and the take-home.

Is it included in my membership?

Yes. Every "Teach Them Jesus with…" collection is included in every membership at no extra cost. On the monthly plan, each lesson you download counts toward your monthly downloads.

Will it get loud?

A little, and that's part of the fun! Each lesson has quiet moments too, and every rhythm card includes a rest. Psalm 98:4 says, "Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth."
