Where Were You? God Answers Job from the Storm

Job 38:1-41; Job 39:1-30; Job 42:1-6, 10; Job 1:1-22 Old Testament PrincipleHumility

Job, a gray-bearded man in plain robes, looks up in awe at a swirling storm cloud over the desert hills, lit by golden light breaking through.

Job lost almost everything and asked God, "Why?" God answered from a storm, not with an explanation, but by showing Job His power and care in creation, from the stars to the snow to the baby ravens. Job humbly trusted God, because God was bigger than his questions.

God made and runs the whole world with wisdom and care, far beyond what we can understand. When we see how great He is, we can be humble and trust Him even with questions we can't answer.

Job 42:2 BSB

Christ Connection · Need

In his pain, Job wished for someone to stand between him and God: "Nor is there a mediator between us, to lay his hand upon us both" (Job 9:33). Jesus is that mediator (1 Timothy 2:5). The God who spoke to Job from the storm came to earth and calmed a storm with a word (Mark 4:39-41), and He suffered too, so He understands our pain (Hebrews 4:15).

The Big Story · Fall

Since the Fall, the world is full of suffering, and good people get hurt. Job shows that God is still the wise Creator in charge of everything, and points us to Jesus, the mediator Job longed for, who will one day end every sorrow.

Go on a short wonder walk outside. Look up at the clouds and feel the wind. Look for a bird, a bug and a plant. Ask, "Who tells the wind where to blow? Who feeds that bird?" Come back in and say, "One day God asked a man named Job questions just like these."

Bible story 6 min

Long ago there was a man named Job. He loved God and did what was right. God gave him a big family and lots of animals.

Then terrible things happened. Job lost his animals. He lost his money. He even lost his children. Then he got very sick. Job was so sad.

Job's friends came. At first they just sat with him. Then they said, "You must have done something bad!" But that wasn't true.
