Heard Far Away: Nehemiah's Thank-You Choirs
Nehemiah 12:27-43; Ezra 3:10-13; Nehemiah 4:3 Old Testament PrincipleThankfulness

When Jerusalem's wall was finished, Nehemiah gathered singers and musicians from all over Judah for a great celebration of thanks to God. He sent two huge choirs up on top of the wall. One marched one way around the city and one marched the other way, singing and playing, until they met at God's house. That day the people offered sacrifices and rejoiced, because God had given them great joy, and the sound of their rejoicing was heard far away. When God keeps His promises, His people answer with loud, glad thanks.
Thankfulness is gladly telling God thank You for what He has done. We thank God together because He keeps His promises and gives His people great joy.

When Jerusalem's wall was finished, Nehemiah planned a big thank-you party for God. Singers and musicians came from all the villages. Two great choirs climbed up on top of the wall. One marched one way and one marched the other way, singing thanks to God, until they met at God's house. God gave His people great joy, and they rejoiced so loudly that people far away heard them. We thank God together because He keeps His promises.

Bible story 6 min
God's people had built a new wall around Jerusalem. Enemies had laughed at them. One enemy said a fox could knock the wall down! But God helped His people, and they finished it in just 52 days.
Now it was time to give the wall to God and say thank you. Nehemiah sent for the singers and the music players. They came from all the little towns around the city. They brought cymbals, harps and lyres.
Nehemiah took the leaders up on top of the wall. He made two great choirs to give thanks to God. Ezra led one choir. It marched along the top of the wall to the right. Nehemiah followed the other choir. It marched to the left.

After God helped His people rebuild Jerusalem's wall, Nehemiah gathered Levite singers and musicians from all the villages to dedicate it with thanksgiving. He sent two great choirs along the top of the wall in opposite directions, with Ezra leading one and Nehemiah following the other, until they met in God's house. The people rejoiced because God had given them great joy, and the sound was heard far away. Thankfulness is God's people gladly telling Him thank You together for keeping His promises.

The dedication of Jerusalem's wall was a deliberate act of thanksgiving. Nehemiah gathered Levite musicians from across Judah, purified the people and the wall, and sent two great choirs in opposite directions along the top of the wall Tobiah had mocked, until they met in God's house. The people rejoiced "because God had given them great joy," and the sound carried far away. Ninety years earlier, the temple foundation brought joy mixed with weeping. Now God had finished what He promised, and His people answered with united, wholehearted thanks, a picture of the joyful assembly gathered through Jesus.
