Solomon Builds the Temple

1 Kings 5:1-8:66; 2 Chronicles 3:1-7:3; John 2:19-21 Old Testament PrincipleWorship

The finished brick-built temple in Jerusalem shining white and gold, with crowds of people bowing in worship as a bright cloud fills it.

King Solomon built a beautiful temple for God, and God filled it with His glory. But even Solomon knew no building could hold God. God came to live with His people, and in Jesus He came closer than ever. So we worship Him.

God is so great that the heavens can't hold Him, yet He comes near to His people. Because He does, we worship Him with all we have.

Memory verse

“O come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.”

Psalm 95:6 BSB

Christ Connection · Better than

The temple was where God showed He was with His people. Jesus said, "One greater than the temple is here" (Matthew 12:6), and He called His own body the temple (John 2:19-21). In Jesus, God didn't just fill a building. He became a person and "made His dwelling among us" (John 1:14).

Matthew 12:6; John 2:19-21; John 1:14

The Big Story · Redemption

Sin had separated people from God, but God kept coming near. He lived among Israel in the temple, came to live among us in Jesus, and one day will dwell with His people forever (Revelation 21:3).
