Memory verse
“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it pierces even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
Hebrews 4:12 BSB
Christ Connection · Promise
Peter quoted Joel, Psalm 16 and Psalm 110, and every one pointed to Jesus. God had promised to pour out His Spirit, promised that His Holy One would not rot in the grave and promised a Lord who would sit at His right hand. Jesus kept every promise. After He rose, Jesus "explained to them what was written in all the Scriptures about Himself" (Luke 24:27). Jesus is the Word made flesh (John 1:14). The sword of the Spirit always points to Him.
Luke 24:27, 44-45; John 1:1, 14; Acts 2:16-36; Revelation 19:13-15
The Big Story · Redemption
The risen Jesus poured out His Spirit, and through the Scriptures that point to Him, the good news began to spread from Jerusalem to the world.

Peter's first sword was steel, and it cost a servant his ear. His second was "the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." At Pentecost he wielded Joel and the Psalms, showing how they pointed to the crucified and risen Jesus, and thousands were "cut to the heart." God's Word is living and active. The Spirit uses it to expose our own hearts first, to defeat lies and to carry the gospel, never as a weapon against people.
