Christmas Bible Lessons for Kids
Seven lessons from the promise to the wise men, one for each Sunday of Advent and beyond.
Christmas is the moment God kept His biggest promise: God Himself came to be with us. These seven lessons tell the Christmas story in order, from a priest who couldn't speak to foreign visitors who came to worship a child-King, so kids see how every part of the story points to who Jesus is.

The lessons, in teaching order 7 lessons
Start on the first Sunday of Advent and teach one lesson a week. The first four fit the four Sundays of Advent, Jesus' birth (with the shepherds) fits Christmas Eve or Christmas Sunday, and the last two fit the Sundays after Christmas.
Advent week 1
His Name Is John: Zechariah and ElizabethLuke 1:5-25; Luke 1:57-80Zechariah the priest and his wife Elizabeth loved God, but they were old and had no children. One day, while Zechariah burned incense in the temple, the angel Gabriel told him, "Your prayer has been heard." They would have a son named John, who would get people ready for the Lord. Zechariah didn't believe it, so he couldn't speak until it happened. When baby John was born, Zechariah wrote, "His name is John," and right away he could talk again, and he praised God with a song about the Savior who was coming. God hears our prayers and keeps His promises, right on time.New TestamentPrayerAdvent week 2
Jesus the KingAn Angel Visits MaryLuke 1:26-38; Luke 1:5-20The angel Gabriel told Mary she would be the mother of Jesus, God's Son, and Mary trusted God's word, because nothing is impossible with God.New TestamentFaithAdvent week 3
My Soul Magnifies the Lord: Mary Visits ElizabethLuke 1:39-56; 1 Samuel 2:1-10After the angel visited Mary, she hurried to the hill country to see her relative Elizabeth, who was going to have a baby in her old age. When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, her baby jumped for joy, and the Holy Spirit filled her. "Why am I so honored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?" she said. Then Mary sang a song of praise – "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior!" – because God had looked on her humble state and was keeping His promise to send a Savior. God lifts up the humble, and humble hearts praise Him.New TestamentHumilityAdvent week 4
God with Us: Joseph’s DreamMatthew 1:18-25; Isaiah 7:14; 2 Samuel 7:12-16Mary was engaged to marry Joseph, a carpenter from King David's family. Before they were married, Mary was going to have a baby from the Holy Spirit. Joseph was a good man, and he planned to end the engagement quietly. But an angel came to him in a dream – "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. She will have a Son, and you are to name Him Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins." It all happened just as God promised through Isaiah – "They will call Him Immanuel," which means "God with us." When Joseph woke up, he did exactly what the angel told him. Obedience means trusting God's word and doing it.New TestamentObedienceChristmas Eve or Christmas Sunday
Jesus the KingJesus Is BornLuke 2:1-20; Micah 5:2In Bethlehem, God's Son was born as a baby and laid in a manger, and angels told shepherds the good news of great joy that a Savior was born.New TestamentJoyAfter Christmas
My Eyes Have Seen Your Salvation: Simeon and AnnaLuke 2:21-38; Isaiah 49:6When baby Jesus was about six weeks old, Mary and Joseph brought Him to the temple in Jerusalem to present Him to the Lord. An old man named Simeon had waited his whole life to see the Savior God promised, and the Holy Spirit had told him he would see the Christ before he died. Simeon took baby Jesus in his arms and praised God – "My eyes have seen Your salvation," a light for all the nations. Then Anna, a very old woman who worshiped at the temple night and day, came and thanked God and told everyone who was waiting about the child. God keeps His promises, and waiting for Him is worth it.New TestamentPatienceEpiphany
We Have Come to Worship Him: The Wise MenMatthew 2:1-12; Micah 5:2After Jesus was born in Bethlehem, wise men called Magi came from the east to Jerusalem. "Where is the One who has been born King of the Jews? We saw His star and have come to worship Him." King Herod was upset, and his teachers told him the Scriptures said the King would be born in Bethlehem. The star led the wise men to the house where Jesus was. They were filled with joy, bowed down and worshiped Him, and gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Then God warned them in a dream to go home another way. Jesus is the true King, worthy of worship from every nation.New TestamentWorship
