Father's Day Bible Lessons for Kids

Five Bible stories about dads, and about God, the perfect Father.

Jesus taught us to pray to God as "our Father." These five lessons show kids what God the Father is like: a father who runs to welcome his son home, a dad who begged Jesus to help his little girl, a father and son who trusted God on the mountain, and a king who treated his friend's son like his own. The best dads point their kids to the perfect Father in heaven.

The father runs down a dirt road with open arms toward his ragged younger son, their home village behind.

  1. Our Father in heaven

The Lord’s PrayerMatthew 6:5-15; Luke 11:1-13When His disciples asked, "Lord, teach us to pray," Jesus gave them a prayer that begins "Our Father in heaven." Because of Jesus, we can talk to God as our loving Father about everything, from His glory to our daily bread.New TestamentPrayer

Jesus the KingThe Lost SonLuke 15:1-32Jesus told a story about a son who ran away and wasted everything, and a father who ran to welcome him home, showing how much God loves lost people.New TestamentLove
  3. A father and son who trusted God

In the BeginningGod Provides a LambGenesis 22:1-19God tested Abraham, then provided a substitute in Isaac's place, a picture of Jesus, the Lamb God provides for us.Old TestamentTrust
  4. A dad who came to Jesus

Jairus’s Daughter and the Woman Who Touched JesusMark 5:21-43Jairus begged Jesus to come heal his dying daughter. On the way, a sick woman touched Jesus' cloak and was healed, and Jesus stopped to talk with her. Then news came that the girl had died. Jesus said, "Do not be afraid; just believe." He took her hand, and she got up! We can trust Jesus even when it seems too late.New TestamentTrust
  5. A seat at the king's table

David and Mephibosheth2 Samuel 9:1-13; 2 Samuel 4:4; 1 Samuel 20:14-17King David remembered his promise to his best friend Jonathan. He found Jonathan's son Mephibosheth, who couldn't walk, gave him back his family's land and invited him to eat at the king's table every day.
