God Made Sarah Laugh: Isaac Is Born
Genesis 18:1-15; Genesis 21:1-7 Old Testament PrincipleJoy

One hot day, three visitors came to Abraham's tent. One of them was the LORD. He said that in a year, Sarah would have a son. Sarah was about ninety years old, and she laughed to herself. "Is anything too difficult for the LORD?" God asked. A year later, Isaac was born, just as God promised. His name means "he laughs." Sarah said, "God has made me laugh!" God keeps His promises, and He fills His people with joy.
Nothing is too hard for God, and He always keeps His promises. When He does, He turns our doubts and sadness into real joy.

Christ Connection · Promise
God promised that through Abraham's offspring all nations would be blessed. Paul says that Offspring is Christ (Galatians 3:16). Isaac's impossible birth kept the promise going. Centuries later, an angel told Mary, "Nothing will be impossible with God" (Luke 1:37), and the promised Son was born.

The Big Story · Redemption
God promised Abraham a son, and through that son a blessing for all nations. Isaac's birth kept the promise alive, and the promised family line led all the way to Jesus.

God had promised Abraham a son. But years and years went by. Now Abraham was ninety-nine years old. Sarah was about ninety. They still had no baby.
One hot day, Abraham sat by his tent. He looked up. Three visitors were standing there! One of them was the LORD.

Twenty-five years after God's first promise, Abraham and Sarah were nearly 100 and 90 and still childless. The LORD visited their tent at Mamre and set the date, this time next year. Sarah laughed in disbelief, and God answered with a question that runs through the whole Bible, "Is anything too difficult for the LORD?" He kept His word. Isaac, "he laughs," was born, and Sarah's doubt became joy. Isaac carried the promise that led to Christ. God's faithfulness is the source of real joy.
